Keep your cool
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Are you struggling to keep your cool when you are upset? It can be easy to tell yourself that this is just the way you act when you are upset. It doesn't have to be that way. Call me for information on Anger Management, offered in Kalamazoo at Desert Streams. There is a way to change what you do when you are angry...eight sessions....usually covered by health care. Why not? Head Games
Why does it take so long for me to remember to ask the Holy Spirit to intervene on my head games? This week I enjoyed a long walk in just the right location, yet the whole time my head was definitely in the wrong location. After 45 minutes, when I passed this gorgeous tree I realized my time was almost up. Yet, I had used that time to dwell on negative, pervasive thoughts. Bingo...because my time was almost done, I appealed to the Holy Spirit to give me some peace. Of course, it was given. Perhaps I can remember to ask for what I need as my feet hit the trail, rather than when I am almost back to my car.
We work with unhealthy thinking in Anger Management. There are currently four ongoing classes for Anger Management at Desert Streams Christian Counseling Clinic. New classes are being formed to begin in March. Please call/text 269-808-1918 for enrollment information. Anger Management classes are typically covered by most health care.

I need green!!!!
Yes, it is that time of year when even snow bunnies need green and I mean NEED green. It became apparent many years ago, that although I love snow and most everything associated with it, my body needs sunshine and green stuff. This time of year can be hard on those of us living in zones where the sunlight and green stuff is limited. If that is the case, it could be that you struggle to keep your attitude in the good zone. Suggestions include getting outdoors, even if it's cold. But you can also up your intake of vitamin D. Taking a trip to the greenhouse nearby or repotting your herbs can get you more exposure to thoughts of spring. Keep your good feelings about winter, after all that's why we live here in the winter wonderland, but do what your body tells you it needs, too. Take care of both mind and body and see what difference you can make in your attitude as we make it through the end of the winter and head into March. We are currently in the third week of Anger Management at Desert Streams. New classes are getting scheduled. Call for details. Tracey Tyler 269-808-1918

Just start.
A recent study asked almost 2000 women questions about their exercising, physical health, and emotional health across the years from 2001 on. All the women had at least 10 depressive symptoms at the start of the study, ranging from moderate to mild.
Across the time frame, women who did 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity or 200 minutes of walking per week all improved their physical health, pain, physical functioning, vitality, and social functioning. More improvement was shown with greater amounts of exercise, but benefits were derived from low amounts as well.
The take away is that moderate-intense physical activity or walking can improve well-being, with most benefits being derived from more, but even small amounts result in improvement. So just start, even if it's a small amount there will be benefits!!

20 minutes later
The biochemicals released when you are upset will disIpate in about 20-30 minutes. Next time you feel.escalated take a short time out to let those chemicals relinquish their effect on your thinking. You will be better able to think through whatever is going on.

Anger Management Assessment
Anger Management Assessments required by the courts can be completed two ways: a psychological intake or successful completion of Anger Management. Both methods are offered through Desert Streams Christian Counseling Center on Rambling Road in Kalamazoo. The cost of an intake is $195. At that intake there could be a recommendation of further therapy action such as completing Anger Management Classes, counseling, etc. Or at the cost of $100 the 4 week Anger Management class is offered. Depending on each individual situation, it can be advantageous to take the class due to the value. Either way, there may or may not be further action required of the participants to be considered complete with Anger Management. Fall Anger Management classes are now enrolling. For more information, contact Desert Streams.
